The Wales Coast Path is a designated long-distance trail which follows, or runs close to, the coastline of Wales. Launched in 2012, the footpath is 870 miles long and was heralded as the first dedicated coast path in the world to cover the entire length of a country’s coastline.
Easly reached from Herons Lake, we recommend you get on the path at Greenfield near Holywell, or Prestatyn.
Offa’s Dyke Path is a 177 mile (285 Km) long walking trail. It is named after, and often follows, the spectacular Dyke King Offa ordered to be constructed in the 8th century, probably to divide his Kingdom of Mercia from rival kingdoms in what is now Wales. The trail falls close to Herons Lake, and is part of the Llandegla to Bodfari part of the trail – click here for more information
Herons Lake looks out onto the beautiful Clwydian range. Avid hikers and those looking for a more slightly challenging stroll can tackle the trek up to the top of Moel Arthur or Moel Famau, one of the many peaks in the Clwydian Range, an Iron Age hillfort which provides views stretching out over the county. There are also closer and shorter routes such as Penycloddiau.
